Summary of my review of Dare to Dream and Work to Win!

The past couple of week has been an emotional time for me, as I have been able to review my own philosophies and opinions while writing these articles.

Dare to Dream and Work To Win, has reinforced and taught me a lot about my life, my business and my team! There are so many aspects of the book that relate to me I find it hard to pick out one or two main points.

However as a leader and a successful business woman I think that the overall message from this book is, that if you want success, then you don’t just have to be in a network marketing or direct selling business, but you have to be a leader in one!

I now keep this book handy, because I find it useful to turn to when I need inspiration or answers, the direction is simple and easy to follow, it is something I wish to be able to duplicate in my business!

Keep an eye out for my next book review, I picked out a couple of fantastic and seminal works in self-help and motivation for you to have a look at!

It’s game time! Chapter twelve!

This chapter is probably best summed up by the following few lines and quotes –

1. Congratulations, for getting this far.
2. Today is the only day you can shape, manage and control.
3. Commitment: It is just around the corner. (by saying or feeling this you are defeating yourself, do not say things like I will do it tomorrow or it will be o.k. if I leave that for now, I will lose weight next week etc!)
4. Inertia: Winning the daily battle, pursue your dream with tenacity, passion, drive and motivation, every day do what it takes to finish your plan for that day and let inertia carry you forward.
5. Part-time does not equal partial quality- no matter how much time you spend always make sure the quality content is of the highest order!
6. Life happens, But don’t take it personally!
7. Remember what is Normal!
8. Pick a horse and ride it!
9. Your dreams, just like your life, are simultaneously your privilege and responsibility to manage.
10. Don’t let anyone steal you dreams.
11. You are stronger than you know!

If you understand all of the above then you are ready to start on your path to success.

Helping others be their best and giving people tracks to run on are chapters ten and eleven!

I have chosen to write about these two chapters together because I think that they our both to be taken in as one, because helping and giving are two of the most important aspects of being a leader.

To help others to be their best, you must first realize that, you have to believe in them more than they believe in themselves!

Next you have to be honest with them, for example it is no good telling someone they are going to make a fortune just by following a simple plan; you have to make them fully aware of what it takes to follow that plan through in its entirety.

Once you understand these two points you can start to help others by giving them the best tracks to run on, this means utilising your knowledge of the business and passing it on in simple and easy to do steps. That anyone can follow.

You can lead people to do what you know to be successful and in turn be a successful leader!

The better you are at this the more respect you will earn and therefore the more success.

Leadership in a voluntary army, chapter nine of Dare to Dream and Work to Win!

What does it mean to be a leader?

1. A leader is someone who knows where he/she is going and is able to motivate others to come along with him/her.
2. A leader is able to answer three questions: Where are we going? How are we going to get there? Why are we doing it this way?
3. Leadership is showing someone the way and then stepping out of the way!
4. Leadership is providing vision, skill and motivation.
5. Leadership by title or position is different from leadership by influence!

Leadership is,

-         The privilege of working while other sleep.

-         The privilege of reading or researching while others rest.

-         The privilege of spending time driving their business while others drive a golf ball.

-         The privilege of working hard in their business to make their dreams become reality; while others work hard to block out the reality that they have no dreams.

-         The privilege of praying for wisdom while others are out playing with no worries.

-         The privilege of routinely giving themselves to their team while others are giving themselves to television.

-         The privilege of ignoring fatigue and focusing on daily goals while others capitulate to fatigue and forget their daily goals.

-         The privilege of being servants to their own teams and their own life goals, while others have no goals or teams of which to give themselves.

-         The privilege of delayed gratification. Doing what they may not feel like doing today so they can do, have and become what they want to be in the future. Meanwhile, non-leaders do all the little and insignificant things they want to do today at the expense of all the big and significant things they wish for the future.

I learnt one main thing from this chapter and I hope you can see it too-

LEADERSHIP IS A PRIVILEGE!

I’ll be the designated driver! (Chapter Eight)

This chapter really captures the heart of direct selling or network marketing because it shows us how and why we need to take control of ourselves and our lives in order to become successful!

Dr. Tom Barrett, talks about two main realities-

1/ People don’t care if you remain dead broke.

2/ You will either face the fear of doing something or you will face the fear of NOT doing something.

You will find in most peoples lives, that, they only wish to appease and bow to other peoples ideas and lives, for example how many of us went to the college we wanted to go to and not the one our parents chose, if your really honest about it most of us went to the college our parents chose!

This keeps happening through life, we are directed, by others, whether it is consciously or not our lives tend to be determined by others!

If you want to be successful at anything you have to understand that it is you who must control your path!

Only you have the power to change your life, no one can or will do it for you! Face the fear and do that something that will make YOU!

Chapter seven of Dare to Dream & Work To Win, Putting new jelly inside an old doughnut!

Here are some statements people commonly use to describe them selves and explain why they are not likely to attempt or succeed at something.

THE I’M NOT BELIEFS. - not smart enough                                                         – not educated enough - not funny enough                                                         – not friendly enough - not outgoing enough                                                    – not poised enough - not disciplined enough                                                 – not confident enough - not tenacious enough                                                   – not talented enough - not tough enough                                                         – not mature enough - not good with numbers                                                – not good with details - not a good leader                                                          - not a good speaker - not a good planner                                                       – not a good motivator - not a good manager                                                     – not a good person

You need to relate to and understand all of the above items in order to move on in your business and your life, realise one common thread throughout “NOT ENOUGH”.

Who ever told you or taught you this was wrong!

You are good enough, replace all of the “not”s with “I am” and tell yourself this all of the time and you will become it!

Believe in yourself and do what you want to do! Have the confidence to try!

Work as hard on yourself as you do on your business!

The last stronghold of doubt: the self.

What you believe yourself to be; will ultimately lead you to where you believe you should be!

Our doubts will affect our belief, if so then our belief can deflect our doubts.

Discover your belief system by answering these related questions-

1/ What do I believe?

2/ How long have I believed this?

3/ How did this belief get installed?

4/ Is what I believe true, accurate and helpful?

5/ What impact will this belief have on my life if I don’t change it?

BELIEFS  Lead to BEHAVIOUR

ATTITUDE Lead To ACTIONS

THOUGHT CONTENT Lead To LIFE CONDUCT

If believe you can do it, then you will do it! And be successful!

Reality check for financial expectations!

This unfortunately is a statement of fact:- There is one dimension in direct selling and network marketing that stands out. In fact like Dr. Tom Barrett, I still find it amazing:-

It is the unrealistic monetary expectations of some people who get involved with direct selling, MLM’s or network marketing.

For these people there is little correlation between their expectations and reality. They have minimal awareness of what it actually takes to make a dream become reality and what it takes to grow a business, any business!

I think everybody intending to start up a business, really needs to sit down and go though this list extensively, and really understand their own reasons why they are doing what they are doing.

Let’s look and take a reality check together read the statements in the table below and answer truefully!

YOU KNOW YOUR FINANCIAL EXPECTATIONS ARE IN NEED OF ADJUSTMENT IF: You thought you create wealth without hard work. You thought you could work this business on a part-time basis but immediately receive a full-time income. You thought the top income earners became wealthy because of lick and good timing and not because of hard work. You thought you could grow your business, become wealthy and never experience disappointment. You thought most of your family and friends would immediately join you in your endeavour. You thought that simple was the same as easy. You believe most people have a dream, and they are just waiting for the right vehicle to make their dream a reality. You thought there would be no learning curve in this business. You expect people you sponsor to be self starting and able to sustain his or her own focus. You thought you could do this business alone and had no need to plug in to any system. You thought you could treat it as a minor hobby but pay like a major business. You though you could wok your business sporadically but expect it to grow steadily. You thought you could merely play with your business, but it would work for you. You thought that the company founders were giving money instead of an opportunity. You though you could build this business and never leave your comfort zone. You though you could build your own multi-million dollar business by only working a few minutes a week. You saw serious residual income but forgot that it takes significant time and effort to build an organization that has depth and duplication. You thought you could make a small investment of effort in your business and reap huge rewards. You though you could grow your business and not have to grow as a person. You though “no strain, no pain, no gain” only applied in weight rooms. You thought you could have success without sweat. You though you don’t need to be tough to triumph.

Living in Entrepreneurial Time. How Entrepreneurs Think!

Our state of mind has a profound impact on our lives and our view of the world! Let’s look at two specific categories.

A resource state and a problem state! Successful entrepreneurs live in the resource state.

RESOURCE STATE————————————PROBLEM STATE
Anticipates the future with confidence. Views problems as something that can and will be solved. Believes life is good while knowing it cab also be difficult. See challenges as things that can be managed or overcome. Sees possibilities everywhere. Enjoys life. Expects to thrive and win in the game of life. Feels like a player in the game of life.	Anticipates the future with dread. Views problems as something that will not be solved. Believes life is hard and good moments are the exception. Sees challenges as unmanageable and overwhelming. Sees problems everywhere. Endures life Expects to just survive the game of life. Feels like a victim in the game of life.

The main point about the table above is that you can live in the resource state if you want to!

But you have to want to change!

By living in the resource state of mind, entrepreneurs manage to be able to visualise their future a lot more clearly than others, they seem to have a perception that is beyond the average.

The good thing is that all of us can change; the first thing to do is to get positive with your self and others. Forget negativity and move on!

Ingredient Four: Have A Plan That Works And Work That Plan!

My objective here is NOT to tell you which plan to use for growing your business. I respect whatever plan you and your team are using.

There are many different, but equally effective, ways of growing a large team and creating wealth.

The issue is NOT “which plan are you using?” but “do you have any plan at all!

The plan you have or the one you are looking at will, in general work, but then come along us humans and most fail!

The problem is NOT the plan! The Problem is the person!

The person or person’s motivation is the key to a successful plan!

No matter how good any plan is there is always the human factor, one persons motivation for doing something is stronger than another’s, therefore the same plan for both people will have different results!

So my advice to you is simple, make sure your motivation is correct and strong before setting out to work your plan. If you do this then your plan will work.

See your plan through to it’s conclusion with the same enthusiasm that you started it with and you wont go far wrong!
