Income Seldom Exceeds Personal Development.
Income Seldom Exceeds Personal Development.
Chapter or Pillar nine is “Income seldom exceeds personal development”
Most people, me included once, think that money makes the world go round and security is having lots of it!
Well it doesn’t and it’s not!
Whether you have money or not life still goes on, the world still turns and nothing changes, well almost nothing.
Money can also go away, you could be sued or have it stolen or just make a bad decision and become one of the thousands of wealthy people who file for bankruptcy each year!
But remember this, if you develop yourself continuously then you will grow as a person, as you build your fortune you build your reputation and your personality.
Really it comes down to the person you become whilst making a million that counts, not the money! Then and only then will you be a success!
To do this you have to realise the difference between the “wage system” and the “profit system”.
Most of us are on the wage system and destined to work for someone else for the rest of our live, they will become wealthy while we live our lives of having a J.O.B.(Just Over Broke)
If you develop into a business owner, even if it is part time until you can afford to go full time, then you become part of the Profit system and have the ability to become financially independent and master of your own destiny!

All of Life is Sales!
All of Life is Sales!
Chapter or Pillar eight is “All of Life is Sales” goes on to tell us that “influence” is the key to success and more sales.
To have influence over others you need to show your talent and have the virtues that other people perceive to be of value.
Talent and virtue are the foundation on which successful influence is built, it does not matter what you are selling or promoting, the truth is that if you learn to sell yourself correctly, people will want to buy from you or trust your word. The product is not the key to good sales!
To show off you talent and virtue there are skills which need to learnt and mastered to give you the impact you desire, they are, “know your stuff”, “talk to lots of people” and “don’t take NO for an answer”
So “know your stuff” pretty simple really, learn all there is to know about what you are selling or promoting (even the bad bits) use the product yourself understand it totally.
Then “talk to lots of people”, again pretty simple, the more people you promote your goods to the more sales you will have, also the more experience you gain will benefit future sales.
“don’t take NO for an answer” this is a bit more difficult and has to be approached in the right manner, I look at it this was “NO” means “NOT RIGHT NOW” it doesn’t mean “NEVER” by this you need to understand people do not like the hard sell, but sometimes they do not realise they need what it is you are selling, I always keep a list of NO’s as well as the Yes’s so I can keep in touch with them and on occasion retry the sale!
Use these simple plans to build your confidence and whilst actively sellin or promoting always remember to “use the pain of regret to push yourself futher”

How To Be A Life Long Learner!
How To Be A Life Long Learner!
Be a life long learner is the seventh pillar of success in the book, it teaches us how and why we need to keep learning throughout our lives, building on our knowledge and understanding whilst becoming more than we think we are!
Ask yourself a question; how many people do you know who have graduated from college and go out find a job and stop learning?
The answer is most people, although college education is important it will inevitably only lead you to earning a living (some better than others).
But if we keep learning from great and successful people then we can enable ourselves to become like them, successful!
I heard some one say once than there are 6 billion people in the world and 1 billion of them cannot read, there are also 95% of graduates who after leaving college never read a book again, what the difference; nothing except one CANNOT read and the other CAN but doesn’t.
Why be like them, there are so many great and successful people in our history and in our present day who have written about how they have become successful, so why not read their book and learn how to emulate their success and their understanding!
In “Twelve Pillars” is a list of books EVERYONE SHOULD READ, probably twenty of the most enlightening books there are for those of us who want to change our lives, don’t be a can but can’t be bothered type, be a can and will type, make something of your life by reading and learning from those who have made their lives into what they want them to be.
I have put the list of books everyone should read on my entitled (funnily enough) Books Everyone Should Read!

Have The Best People Around!
Have The Best People Around!
Surround yourself with the best people! Is the sixth of the twelve pillars, and can be described by a saying in the book “Don’t join an easy crowd; you won’t grow. Go where the expectations and the demands to perform are high”
O.K. this is where it gets a little interesting.
To understand this you have to look at your life and those people who you associate with the most, you need to understand that sometimes your friends, family even co-workers are the reason you are standing still in your pursuit of success.
Twelve Pillars teaches us a technique designed to help us create a basis for all our associations on our life path, but it is up to us to follow it, at first it might be difficult to put into practise but, and this is the big but, you will only succeed by associating with people who are successful or those who are driving themselves on to success.
The technique talked about in the book is this:- YOU place every person you know already and those who you will meet in the future into three categories: 1/ Disassociation, 2/ Limited association and 3/ Expanded association.
1/ Disassociation – Break links with those who hold you back, negative, lazy, depressing, cup half empty rather than half full types. (even if they are your best friend!)
2/ Limited association – for those who are positive but in reality are not actively progressing on a success path (maybe a good place for very close and old friends as well)
3/ Expanded association – Now here is where you put all those positive, active, creative, successful, the want to do and have to have people.
Number 3, expanded association types are those who will enable you to grow into that successful entrepreneur you want to be, if you show the right levels of your own activity in building your success they will want to be around you as much as you want to be around them.
Eventually you will aspire to be like them!

The Time is Yours, How To Use Time Effectively!
The Time is Yours, How To Use Time Effectively!
After you have decided what your initial goals are (short and long term), you need to bring into action the fifth chapter of “Twelve Pillars” “The Proper Use Of Time”
I remember a saying used in the book, it goes, “we must all suffer from one or two pains: The pain of discipline or the pain of regret. The difference is discipline weighs ounces while regret weighs tons”
By this I believe the book is aiming at something along the lines of prioritise what you have to do to get what you want or need the most!
There is a balance to be struck though, and beware of spending too much time on one thing, you have to learn how to manage your days to fill your effectiveness to its peak!
Also another thing to be wary of when spending time doing something, and that is Time is expensive, once it’s gone you can never retrieve it!
So this is what I do-
Plan what I need to do each day to achieve my goals for that day, takes about 10 minutes.
I also work in time with my family, precious time with my two wonderful daughters, oh and hubby mustn’t forget him!
My actual work time is set out so for every hour I work I have a ten minute break, this is to keep me from getting bogged down and keeps me refreshed, also it give me the time to reflect on what I have achieved and what I still need to achieve.
If you stick reasonably rigidly to this simple way of utilising your time and prioritise your goals effectively, you will find you will get thing done and be surprised by how much you get done!

Achieving Goals, How Simple It Really Is!
Achieving Goals, How Simple It Really Is!
Chapter four of “Twelve Pillars” is Achieve your goals, the story continues with our hero learning how simple and easy it is to achieve your goals in life, business or health, for that matter.
No matter who or what you are, there is one over ridding fact of life, that is you must have a goal of some sort to achieve in life!
But so, so many of us never realise our potential because we do not act on our basic achievement instincts, instead we stumble through life seeming to get bogged down in every day mediocrity and settle for what we have.
Well let me show you how you can start on the road to your new found success.
To Start—
Use your imagination a little, think of things you want, desire or need, AND WRITE THEM DOWN in order of priority or preference.
Now set yourself a target date or time for each of those items/goals and be realistic, then WRITE IT DOWN!
Now look at these goals and work out how you are going to achieve them, or put another way how much work are you going to have to do, to get those goals, OH AND WRITE IT DOWN!
This is just the beginning of your new found successful life, you will notice one thing that stands out from the three statements and that is to WRITE IT DOWN.
What this does is basically give your subconscious mind an instruction or an order if you like, somewhere to start. Utilise this and make it stronger by looking at these goals frequently through out each and every day, build on your list as you grow.
DON’T FORGET TO DO THE WORK THOUGH!

Relationships! Get The Best!
Time, effort and imagination must be summoned constantly to keep any relationship flourishing and growing.
The Third Pillar of success.
The sign of an excellent life, you can gain every possession in the world but if you lose your relationships what good has your life been?
Like the story from the book, if you cultivate your relationships properly and fully they will blossom and bloom for all to see and be in awe of.
You may think that this is a small piece of the puzzle or one that can be overlooked, but be warned no matter how successful you may be in business, if your life’s relationships are a failure you will die un-happy.
The Twelve Pillars are what they say, they are the pillars that support your entire existence, each one must be as strong as the next so as to even the weight of life across all twelve pillars.
If one pillar is neglected then the strain will prove to strong and could topple the other pillars, relationships are the one thing people tend to ignore or hope they will take care of themselves.
They won’t!
You have to work as hard on your relationships as you do on your business.
Try it, show someone close to you that you care, use your imagination to inspire the feelings you have for each other, and what’s more, keep doing it!

3D Health, Live a life of health! by Helen Pickard
3D Health, Live a life of health!
This chapter really made me sit up and take notice!
Not because it tells you a secret about becoming wealthy but it tells you that your inner health shows through to your outer health and that by looking after both your inner and outer health you can start to feel successful which in turn will help you become successful.
It really is as simple as keeping yourself in tip top condition and looking the part so that you feel the part, people will notice and more importantly people will take notice of you.
The three dimensions of health are –
1/ The Body
2/ The Soul
3/ The Spirit
You have to learn to balance these dimensions to best suit you.
Some people work on their bodies and neglect the other two areas.
Others work on their intellect and neglect the other two areas.
And then you have people who work on their spiritual side and they neglect the other areas as well.
Not many people work on all three dimensions to get their natural balance.
So in truth you need to decide what you need for yourself and work on those areas to best suit those needs.
“Twelve Pillars” gives a good analogy for this,
“Look at it like a three layered onion for example, peel away each layer until you get to the core, the spiritual part is at the core and it is the most important, the second layer is the soul and the outer layer is the body. Each part rests on the one below it and ir is only as strong as the layer below.”

Work harder on yourself than you do on your job!
“Work harder on yourself than you do on your job!”
This may sound a bit strange at first but when you begin to realise its importance in your success this one sentence will start you on your way to success!
Most people, me included, believe that hard work will bring you success; this is now strictly true however.
Just by working hard on your job you will find that all you have to show for it is a little bit more tiredness at the end of the day!
An example I can think of is this, imagine your work included taking 100 bags from one end of a building to another, once you have done all 100 bags you have finished! So you walk quickly or run maybe even take two bags at a time, this is working hard and only saves you a little time and you also get more tired!
Now if you put your mind to it and learn from others and learn about the task you have, you may find a way to move the bags with little effort and more quickly! Therefore giving you more time and energy to do something else and improve your life even more!
So if you work hard on your own personal development and get better at what you do or what you want to do then the difference will be rewards and success!
It may seem a simple philosophy but it is also one that most people miss or don’t understand!
So become teachable and learn all you can and keep on learning, use the new found knowledge to build your success.

Jim Rohn & Chris Widener, WHY! By Helen Pickard
Preface of Twelve Pillars by Jim Rohn & Chris Widener.
Both Jim Rohn and Chris Widener give separate and very different prefaces to Twelve Pillars, but reading between the lines I became to realise that effectively they are both on the same path!
That path is the one I have chosen to follow; it is a path destined to be a difficult and often tricky one, but one worth travelling.
The path is also one I hope you will choose and follow with the same determination and fortitude that I am, to yours and mine eventual success.
The path; it is to leave behind a legacy, something to be remembered for, something good and undeniably honourable, to do this I use the teachings of business and life philosophers like Jim and Chris to keep me on the right path.
By helping others become successful and teaching others to make a better life for themselves I am enabling my own success to become reality.
The “WHY” for me is really “YOU”!
Follow me through the rest of this story and we will grow our individual success together!
